Principal UX Designer, Devices Experience Design

Shape the future of Amazon's device offerings by leading UX design strategy across our most complex, crossplatform experiences. As a Principal UX Designer, youll drive design excellence for nextgeneration services that power millions of Amazon devices worldwide, especially focused on emerging products and novel user interfaces.

Youll be the design leader defining frameworks and methodologies that scale across multiple product lines, working directly with Director + leadership to set design vision and strategy. This role offers the opportunity to influence architecture decisions, lead crossorganizational design initiatives, and mentor senior designers while solving significantly complex problems where product strategy may be undefined.

Key Job Responsibilities

• Lead design strategy for horizontallyscaled services supporting all Amazon device product lines
• Drive crossorg alignment on design systems, patterns, and standards that impact millions of customers
• Partner with senior leadership to map business goals to design investments and outcomes
• Mentor and develop design talent across the organization while setting the bar for design excellence
• Influence technical architecture and organizational changes to enable breakthrough customer experiences

Strategic Design Leadership:

• Own UX vision and strategy across multiple device software services, ensuring alignment with Amazons brand identity and business goals
• Define and evangelize design frameworks that create consistency while supporting measurable business requirements
• Lead design reviews and critiques that incorporate market analysis, customer feedback, and usability findings

CrossOrganizational Influence:

• Collaborate with stakeholders to translate business objectives into compelling design strategies
• Drive design decisions that require coordination between multiple teams, balancing technical constraints with customer needs
• Influence architecture decisions to ensure optimal user experience while meeting business requirements

Design Excellence & Innovation:

• Guide the endtoend design process from concept to implementation across complex device software services
• Establish best practices for information architecture and design specifications that scale across multiple products
• Identify opportunities to simplify complex workflows while maintaining comprehensive functionality

Talent Development & Community Building:

• Mentor senior designers on both craft excellence and strategic thinking
• Present design work to executive leadership, articulating the business value of design decisions
• Foster collaboration with designers across the Devices organization to ensure consistency in common UX patterns and systems

A day in the life

As a Principal UX Designer in Device Software and Services, youll solve complex design challenges impacting both internal teams and end users of Amazon devices. Youll partner with Engineering Directors, Product leaders, and senior engineers across Amazons device organization. Your work will serve both internal teams who develop and manage devices and ultimately the millions of customers who use Amazon devices in their homes.

Problems youll solve: Youll unify fragmented console experiences, create scalable design systems across diverse tools, and simplify complex workflows for teams managing multiple device types. Youll help visualize large datasets, design intuitive interfaces for technical processes, and establish design standards that elevate experiences across the organization. Your strategic influence will extend beyond individual projects as you mentor other designers and advocate for usercentered approaches in highly technical environments, ultimately shaping how Amazon builds devices that delight customers worldwide.

Basic Qualifications

• 10+ years of design experience
• Have an available online portfolio
• Experience with best practices for User Interface Design, Information Architecture, and Interaction Design
• Experience in life cycle design projects from design strategy through execution

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience providing and effectively communicating strategic and tactical recommendations based on data
• Experience with consumer brands and experience design, and a passion for storytelling

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include signon payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
